Measuring devices used in environmental sciences

Speaker: Prof. Avto Tavkhelidze

Recent developments in environmental sciences lead to intensive use of Physics methods and corresponding sophisticated apparatus for sample analysis. However, it requires knowledge of basic Physics and electrical engineering. Modern environmental sciences Masters programs include courses of Physics and electrical engineering. This lecture is designed to introduce students to sample analysis methods such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray structural analysis, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Knowledge of these methods will help students to work in the modern laboratories equipped with sophisticated measurement devices.
